I don't know where to start. I guess first I'll tell you my concern, and then you can decide whether it really is a valid problem or not. I could possibly be overreacting. I don't have enough knowledge to determine whether our water supply is truly a threat, or if this is just media hype.  In December of 2010, I read the following article:

It mentions the high amount of hexavalent chromium in our water supply. I thought "wow", but didn't really connect it to having any potential of affecting me personally until recently. None of my family, on either my mother's or father's side has any history of cancer. Yet, I had a brain tumor when I was 18. It was discovered when I had a stroke in December of 1997. I lost my speech and the feeling in my left hand and foot. It was a malignant astrocytoma in my right parietal lobe. I had brain surgery to remove the tumor and repair the burst blood vessel. Then I went to physical therapy to regain speech and left-hand motor skills while having daily radiation treatments and monthly chemotherapy treatments. I went into remission in May of 1998, the month I graduated high school. I was on disability for a few years, and then went back to having a job in 2001. I worked at various call centers for years, which really helped me redevelop my speech abilities. Last year, in April, I noticed a spot on my left arm. I went to a dermatologist to have it looked at. It turned out to be a malignant melanoma. They had caught it before it metastasized. They removed it, and there are no signs of it still existing. Even if there is no way to tie me directly to the high levels of chromium-6 in Norman, Oklahoma’s water supply, I thought I should at least bring it to your attention, so you can evaluate the situation yourself and decide whether it is worth pursuing. I am 100% IN SUPPORT of Occupy Wall Street, but what is so painfully frustrating is when I hear people shooting down Occupy Wall Street and dismissing them because "They don't know what they want. They're just complaining. They just want a handout, etc". The main resistance to this movement, other than the banks, is the GROWING perception that there is no organization or consensus, and that this is turning into a bitch-and-moan competition. There needs to be some kind of official list of complaints, and for each complaint, a proposed solution. At least a rough draft. It's not our job to write the laws, but it is our job to mobilize people to support or stand against legislation that is related to what we're standing for. When I have someone say "They don't even know what they want," I have nothing to counter their argument, because there are no official goals listed on this site. No objectives. If you want to win people over, you have to not only communicate what you're fighting against, but also what you're fighting FOR. The phase of just anger and outrage has outstayed its welcome. Now it's time to mobilize towards clear defined objectives. Look how well Moveyourmoney and Bank Transfer Day did. The momentum of Occupy Wall Street fueled those objectives. Use this momentum for SOMETHING before it withers away and public perception turns against us. Once you have objectives in place, the naysayers and antagonists can't make wild speculations like "They just want a handout," or "They're communists and anarchists." Right now the door is open for them to put out any disinformation they want. You have the opportunity to close that door and replace it with solid, concrete goals. They need to be official. _I wrote a letter today to Senate and forwarded it to various local news outlets and only one called back to confirm the publishing of my letter to them however it only takes one...all should do the same.....here is a copy of the letter I sent:

As a parent of a beautiful 4 year old little girl I often wonder what her future will be like I wonder if she will sneak out with friends at night or get suspended from school or watch a really cool movie with a boy she likes however I can not guarantee her a future if we continue to harm our planet the way we are doing at this moment. It is up to us to shape not only the future of our planet but also the future of our children, it is up to us as responsible adults and citizens to protect the only home we have in the universe. If we continue with these old habits like Oil drilling and our planet is thrust further in to climate change and we destroy it where will we live? I understand that for many in the military industrial/political complex money and greed makes all the decisions but what good is money and power if we continue to abuse our planet, consume its resources and remain careless of the future? There are alternative fuel sources which need to be harnessed immediately in order to guarantee a future for us and our children. We have to make the stand now against misuse of our planet, we have to urge president Obama to actually begin the change he promised instead of pushing our nation further in to debt and our planet further into peril.
